Horse-man-ship Mentality – It is possible to do this

Cappel Cowboy Wisdom

The repetition of the same thought or physical action develops into a habit which, repeated frequently enough, becomes an automatic reflex… Norman Vincent Peale

Is it possible to learn how to do anything with a horse from reading books, and articles, watching videos, or any kind of online training?

If you really can learn from these tools, then “How” would be the question to ask yourself.

I have used resources like this for decades now. They are not the only way I have learned about horses, but they have been a valuable part of my personal journey!

For me, when I read something, I pay attention to every word in every sentence. I find it beneficial to take a paragraph in a book for example and read it repeatedly until I believe I have understood what the author is saying.

The same is true for video training. It is entertaining to watch the entire video, but you really do not learn anything until you go back and rewatch it repeatedly!

This type of repetition works well. The reason that I know that re-reading or watching material is so effective is because; you will catch an idea and tend to want to dwell on that idea, meanwhile, the book or video goes on with idea after idea after idea.

Therefore, when you go back and re-read or watch you will be able to follow along with better clarification.

I once read a trainer's comment after having been asked the question of "how many times do I try it before it sinks in?" He replied - try it 1,000 times then keep trying. :)
